small works, small prices…
I’ve recently made some small “banners” (as I think of them) and they are for sale. I made a deliberate effort to keep the prices low so that more people might have the opportunity to own an original artwork - only $60 each.
Each piece starts with a digital photo, which is printed onto Tyvek using archival inks, then sewn and grommeted to form a miniature 4” x 6” banner. Depending upon the image, sometimes it ends there, but usually I draw, paint, cut, or collage over the printed surface. Either way each finished piece is unique.

EXCHANGE is an exhibition of the completed community engagement projects from the outgoing 2011-2012 40th Street Artists-in-Residence.
My project began by teaching a sculpture class for Neighborhood Bike Works and culminated in the youth design, construction, and riding of a human-powered flying saucer in the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby where we won the Judge’s Choice Award.
Currently, an installation consisting of the bike sculpture, our costumes, and video documentation is on view at 40th Street AIRspace (by appointment, contact 40th Street AIR). The video can also be viewed online: http://youtu.be/ciAac7MFYmA.

The summer 2012 Rodin Museum re-opening just keeps getting closer! Here, Ryma Hatahet, who is interning with us from the French conservation program of the Institut National du Patrimoine, Paris, and Andrew Lins, the Neubauer Family Chair of Conservation and Senior Conservator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture here at the Museum, work on getting Rodin’s ‘Adam’ and ‘The Shade’ ready for outdoor display. The work involves rebuilding a stable patina that imitates its original layering over a surface that’s been treated to remove corrosion and particulates. After this step, the surfaces will be given a protective coating.
I see them restoring the sculptures everyday on my bike ride to my studio at 40 St AIR. Can’t wait - haven’t been to the Rodin Museum at all since I moved to Philly 3 years ago.
